Peru Map Guide: A Legacy of Exploration
For over two decades, the Huaraz Map Guide stood as the definitive pocket guide for adventurers exploring our region. Launched in 1998, with Mauro Olaza as its director and editor, it offered invaluable information, detailed maps of the Cordillera Blanca, and insightful articles from world-renowned figures in adventure, nature, photography, and climbing. These contributions shared incredible experiences from our mountains, leaving a lasting legacy in Ancash and becoming an essential resource for travelers, consistently maintaining high-quality articles and information.
This pocket guide, which we championed for more than twenty years, was made possible by the dedicated efforts of many individuals. We extend special gratitude to Mario Holenstein, Ted Alexander, and Chris Benway for their advice and suggestions; to Julio Olaza, Diana Morris, Steve Wegner, and Tito Olaza for their tireless work in translation and editing; and to the intrepid Jim Bartle, Rob Racchowiecki, Carlos Buhler, Brad Johnson, Adrian Ballinger, James Wilson, Dan Hintz, Eli Helmuth, Cam McRae, and Kathy Jarvis for their powerful testimonies. We also featured many famous authors from guidebooks like Lonely Planet and Moon Handbooks Peru, among others. We fondly remember Jeff Lowe, Adam Kolff, Ueli Steck, Charlie Fowler, and Jack Roberts, friends who not only left their mark on the guide but also on our lives.
We invite you to explore some of the editions we had the honor to edit and distribute as part of the Peru Map Guide.
